Today, there are many different ways of working metal, each giving rise to very specific products and techniques.<\/p>\n

The latest development is undoubtedly additive manufacturing, in which material is added not in opposition to, but rather as a complement to, the much more traditional subtractive manufacturing, in which material is removed to generate strings of swarf.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

TURNING, a subtractive technique for your mechanical parts and fasteners<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>

Mechanical turning is probably the most familiar technique, and consists in producing parts whose shapes are derived from a \"revolution\", i.e. a part centered around an axis known as Z. The principle of turning is that the part rotates on its axis, while the tool is fixed.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The production machines, known as \"lathes\", are either traditional or CNC lathes.<\/p>\n

Mechanical milling is almost as well known to the general public as turning. This fame is undoubtedly linked to the trades in our workshops, the most common of which is the famous Turner-Miller. <\/p>\n

This time, it's the tool that turns and the part that is fixed. At least, that's what you learn in mechanics school, because in reality today it's not always so binary... <\/p>\n

In general, milling is used to produce flat surfaces, grooves, shoulders, off-axis and\/or transverse bores, which at Massard are essential shapes for your mechanical parts and fasteners.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

While it's complicated, and sometimes even impossible, to fit a round into a square or a square into a round, milling in turning has many advantages.<\/p>\n

Firstly, it enables the production of a complex part without any human intervention. Milling in the turning process guarantees the perpendicularity and parallelism of the milled faces, because at Massard, your fittings, plugs, inserts... come out of the machine finished! Or almost... Because depending on your requirements, your mechanical parts and fasteners can be entrusted to our partners for grinding, heat treatment or surface treatment operations. <\/p>\n

Threads are produced in-house, either by rolling<\/a> or machining.
