In the screw machining industry, continuous part availability is just as important as manufacturing precision.
To meet the needs of its industrial customers, Massard & Cie has implemented a rigorously structured inventory management and integrated logistics system, ensuring just-in-time delivery while controlling supply costs.
Buffer Stock: Securing Production
Massard offers dedicated buffer stocks for recurring parts and annual production runs.
These stocks are sized based on consumption history or validated customer forecasts.
Buffer stock makes it possible to absorb consumption variations without production restart delays, reduce delivery times, and ensure continuity of supply even during demand peaks.
Stocks are set up under a customer contract based on their annual or biannual needs, with a production replenishment procedure triggered at a jointly defined low-stock threshold.
This stock replenishment is triggered by our production planning in order to restore stock levels, and is of course validated by a new customer contract.
Management Supported by In-House CAM/Quality Systems
Inventory management at Massard is supported by an in-house developed CAM and quality management tool built on an SQL database.
Each production batch is individually tracked, monitored in terms of available stock / reserved stock, and linked to quality control and material traceability data.
The SQL architecture enables:
secure centralization of industrial data
real-time tracking of stock and production movements,
high reliability in managing critical flows.
In addition, a statistical process control software (QUASAR) is used to monitor quality during production, directly linked to readings from the optical measuring bench.

Statistical Process Control and Connected Metrology
Thanks to the QUASAR system combined with the optical bench, Massard is able to:
- perform automatic dimensional checks in series,
- analyze data in real time to anticipate any production drift,
- ensure rigorous SPC monitoring for critical parts.
These tools are essential for maintaining a high level of quality while optimizing cycle times.
Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing Tools
For project preparation, Massard uses:
- SolidEdge for CAD (Computer-Aided Design): creation and validation of customer or internal drawings,
- Esprit for CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing): advanced programming of complex machining operations.
This enables a rapid transposition of specifications to the production floor, ensuring full compatibility with CNC and multi-spindle equipment.
Scheduled and Customized Deliveries
Massard organizes scheduled deliveries based on customer needs:
- weekly, bi-monthly or monthly frequency,
- delivery on order call or from secured stock,
- choice of carrier suited to the customer's constraints.
Logistics are managed to minimize customer storage costs and ensure reliable receiving times.
Logistics Connected to Industrial Performance
Inventory management and industrial logistics at Massard rely on reliable tools, rigorous processes, and the ability to adapt to customer constraints.
SQL-based CAM/ERP system, SPC control with QUASAR, connected optical measuring bench, integrated CAM and CAD: everything is implemented to ensure responsiveness, reliability and quality in supply management.

FAQ – Inventory Management and Industrial Logistics at Massard
1. How does the SQL-based CAM/ERP system improve inventory management accuracy?
The SQL structure links each production batch to its quality, material and logistics movement data in real time. This architecture prevents stock discrepancies, ensures reliable availability levels, and automates threshold alerts for recurring production.
2. How does the QUASAR / Keyence optical bench pairing optimize quality logistics?
The SPC monitoring from QUASAR is connected to the optical bench for continuous-flow dimensional control. The results feed directly into the CAM/ERP database, ensuring that only compliant parts enter available stock, thereby reducing scrap and shipping delays.
3. How does Massard adapt its logistics flows to multi-site customer constraints?
Thanks to planning driven by the CAM/ERP system and customized logistics agreements, deliveries can be scheduled, consolidated, or made on call. This allows buffer stocks to be adjusted per customer site and ensures controlled availability across the entire industrial network.
